Teachers Take a Trip: Travel for Educators

Teachers Take a Trip is travel designed for teachers with a dose of professional development!

Expand your teaching through travel.

Who is invited?

Are you an educator? You’re invited! Formal and informal educators, elementary, middle, and high school teachers, and pre-service teachers are all welcome! Teachers Take a Trip travel leans towards high school science, but teachers of any subject can create travel-inspired classroom resources. Check out the Benefits of Travel for Teachers.

How can you expand your teaching through travel?

This isn’t just a vacation! While traveling, teachers will learn strategies to prepare and develop resources with location-inspired content. Help students connect to far-away content by creating travel-inspired classroom resources. When you share your experiences, students feed off your excitement. They can develop deeper meaning that connects travel destinations to your content.

Goals of Travel-Inspired Learning

Students will:

  • Create a connection to the content
  • Envision processes and phenomena that occur throughout the world
  • Develop as global citizens who acknowledge and respect different cultures

NGSS Storylines

I heart the national parks and I’ve jumped full in with NGSS storylines. So, let’s combine the two! Teachers Take a Trip workshops during Zion National Park Spring Break will focus on using phenomena that occur in national parks to develop an engaging storyline.

How is it possible for trips to be so affordable?

I’m sure you’re thinking, “What’s the catch?” Well, there isn’t one and I promise there will be no sleeping on floors or hitchhiking! 🙂 I spent the last several years learning how to maximize travel experiences without breaking the bank. Now, you get to reap the benefits! I assure you we will not be skimping on the essentials or fun.

Utilizing budget travel strategies offers affordable ways to explore locations. Plus, I work hard to find high quality deals for a group. It’s been amazing how mnay people are stoked to support a group of traveling teachers!

True, we will not be staying at luxury resort hotels. Instead, we will stay at comfortable Airbnbs, Selina Hostels (in Costa Rica), or other affordable accommodation options. Check out this article, Best Hostel Experiences, to read why Selina Hostel – Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is one of my favorite hostels in the world!

Your hard-earned money will be prioritized toward educational experiences and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Your leader is Alyssa Weisenstein, founder of Teacher on a Trip (that’s me!). I grew up in Ohio and now teach high school science in Southen Illinois. I have a passion for travel and work to connect travel with classroom content.

Lately, my focus has been incorporating phenomena that occur in national parks into NGSS aligned earth science storylines.
Outdoors + travel + science = me in natural nerdy heaven!

I used to believe that travel was expensive and out of reach, then I learned the arts of travel hacking and budget travel. In the past two years, I visited eight countries and numerous states on my teacher’s salary. I’m done keeping these travel secrets to myself and want to share these incredible adventures with other teachers.

Teacher Shout Out!

You deserve recognition for bettering yourself as an educator! You’re using part of your break to not only have fun adventures but to expand your teaching through travel. Teacher on a Trip will send a postcard to your administrator letting them know that you took advantage of this unique learning opportunity.
