NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!!

NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!!

Ready to create a storyline that excites you AND engages your students?

Students analyze data to determine how gypsum formed in this NGSS earth science storyline.

Earth Science Teachers…

What if you could join a storyline writing community that actually explains how NGSS works in the classroom, guides you in transforming lessons to fit the intent of NGSS, and supports you in creating meaningful assessments? Now, you can!

If these questions sound familiar, you’re in the right place.

—> Where do I even start?

—> What are the standards really?

—> Do I use all 3-dimensions every day?

—> How do I plan if students are guiding their learning?

—> How are NGSS aligned assessments different?

NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!! answers those questions (and many more!) while walking you through a manageable process to understand the intent of NGSS and create a storyline.

Let me guess…You’ve been to “trainings” that left you more confused than when you started.

That’s because piece-milled workshop after workshop sprinkled here and there will not work when it comes to transforming

NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!! is NOT that type of training.

Students determine characteristics of minerals in the NGSS earth science storyline.

What teachers need to understand NGSS and create engaging storylines is a sequential training program and time to create with support and collaboration along the way.

NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!! is that program.

When fully implemented, a three-dimensional approach to science puts phenomena first, encourages students to ask driving questions, engages with hands-on and minds-on student learning, and challenges teachers to assess beyond the content.

Teaching with NGSS aligned storylines will…

—> put wonder back into science
—> inspire students to ask good questions
—> get students doing science to find answers
—> expand assessments to three dimensions
—> develop learners who are critical thinkers
—> bring excitement back to teaching

Meet Alyssa Weisenstein

Alyssa kneeling down holding a piece of ice from a glacier in front of an ice lagoon.

Hey! My name is Alyssa and I teach Earth science and biology in Southern Illinois. You may know me as the creator of Teacher on a Trip and the Facebook Group NGSS Earth Science Storylines.

My introduction to storylines was through Illinois Biology Storylines and that experience helped me really understand the intent of storylines. I liked it so much I wanted to find something comparable for earth science and after hours of searching, I just couldn’t. So, I set out to create my own.

I LOVE using NGSS aligned storylines in my classes and want other teachers to see how it transforms students into engaged learners. My storyline specialty is using geological features from national parks as anchoring phenomena. Students love it! I love it! You can check out completed storylines and projects I am working on here –> NGSS Storylines: National Parks.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me hiking through the woods with my dogs, jet-setting to who knows where, visiting family, or taking a class about something education or science.

If you have any questions, please contact me at teacheronatrip@gmail.com. I look forward to creating storylines with you!

A Quick Recap of All That’s Included

You have choices. Now, it’s decision making time.

DO NOTHING.
Doing nothing changes nothing.

Whether you’re a new teacher or a seasoned pro, students will still learn science through traditional teaching strategies. But they will not be doing science in a minds-on, modern approach that aligns with the intent and goals of NGSS.

Why not start now?

CREATE A STORYLINE FOR YOUR STUDENTS.

You know the ideas in your head are stellar. Now, all you need are the strategies to put them together in a cohesive order. Your students will thank you! (Well…they’re teenagers, they’ll probably just shrug).

Either way, your students will access the BEST science course from you.

You’ll need to make that decision quickly. NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!! is only open to the first ten teacher.

NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!! FAQs

Yes! Each module is divided into manageable-sized pieces with action steps that can be completed on your own schedule. Teachers who participate in the weekly LIVE Feedback/Q&A sessions benefit greatly as they develop their storylines. I highly recommend setting aside time for the LIVES. No new material will be added on the weekends to give you time to catch-up and have a breather.

For as long as Facebook keeps archived groups around!

To be quite honest, I want to work with people who are committed to creating their NGSS aligned storylines. How many free programs have you signed up for and never completed? This is a commitment for you and me - we'll both show up fully. At the end of the three weeks, you will have the tools and strategies you need to continue writing engaging storylines long after this training.

Everything will be housed in a private Facebook Group only for teachers involved with NGSS Storylines?? to Storylines!! If you have Facebook, you can access everything!
